11th hour with student teachers

Four days before second year nursery student teachers sat for their final examinations we gave them one day of phonics reading teaching. St Agnes Nursery Teacher's Training College is our neighbour in Holy Rosary Primary School; we have a close working relationship with them and wanted to help equip these student teachers before entering the field next year. 
It was a long day. Training before lunch, then practise teaching after lunch. The student teachers certainly came a long way in that day. What is encouraging is that we will be working with many of these student teachers again next year after they graduate and when they have jobs in nursery schools. Hopefully we will encounter them as nursery teachers and continue their journey of professional development.
