The roses amongst the thorns

Meet Olyec Andrew. This is certainly not the clearest photo; however the story behind this photo (and many like this) are the roses amongst the thorns of lockdown. Schools across Uganda are closed again; and the first three years of primary school have been closed for a year and a half. Andrew used to struggle with maths in his local primary school in Gulu. Although that was a long time ago now…

Now, one of the READ for Life team has been teaching Andrew as part of our neighbourhood teaching during lockdown. Our lockdown response includes daily reading and maths activities. Andrew has been learning so much... and now enjoying learning so much, that he doesn’t want lockdown to end.

Andrew might be one of the few people who want lockdown to continue; but it is beautiful to see some children flourishing in this time.
